A debate over an outfit she wore in an advertisement continued for hours on a prime time news channel talk show. Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon was not only surprised by the incident but was genuinely shocked.
The actress recently opened up about the widely discussed outfit controversy in the trailer for Kareena Kapoor Khan’s popular talk show ‘What Women Want’.
Earlier this year, Kriti was seen wearing a deep neckline bralette style blouse and skirt in an advertisement for jewelry brand ‘Ziva’.
The outfit sparked outrage among a section of social media users. They accused her of wearing a revealing outfit during the Rakhi Bandhan festival and claimed it was against Indian culture.
Adding fuel to the controversy, actress Kangana Ranaut took a sharp dig and wrote, “Why would anyone wear a bikini or underwear while tying Rakhi to her own brother? This is a strange promotion done intentionally.”
Recalling those days on Kareena’s talk show, Kriti laughed and said, “I could not believe that an overnight live discussion with a panel of six people had started on a news channel about the blouse I was wearing.” In response, Kareena said sympathetically, “I know.”
Despite facing severe trolling over her outfit, Kriti did not remain silent. At the time, she sent a strong message to social media users, writing, “Why are people so concerned about what another woman wears? Develop your mentality. I tied Rakhi and I have no problem with it. So why do others have so much of a problem? The purity of a festival does not lie in clothing. It lies in emotions.”
Kriti also shared a photo of herself tying Rakhi with her sister and mocked her critics by calling them the “Rakhi Fashion Committee.”
Toward the end of the podcast trailer, when Kareena asks, “What do women actually want?” Kriti immediately gives a clear answer, “Women want people to stop judging them unnecessarily and people to mind their own business.”
Kriti was last seen on screen in the film ‘Cocktail 2’.
