3 dead, 16 injured as bus plunges into Munshiganj ditch

Three people died and at least 16 others injured when a bus fell into a ditch on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Sreenagar, Munshiganj on Saturday.
Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Deputy Assistant Director Muhammad Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter. One of the deceased was identified as Rukunuzzaman Ranju, 55. Police could not immediately identify the remaining two deceased individuals.
The injured victims are residents of various areas in Chuadanga, Meherpur, Jhenaidah, Magura, and Dhaka.
Shafiqul said a Dhaka-bound Darshana Paribahan bus coming from Chuadanga broke through the road railing and fell into a ditch while attempting to overtake a covered van.
Upon receiving the news, two units from the Sreenagar Fire Station launched rescue operations and 11 of the injured were sent to the Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex. Moreover, five people were provided first aid at the scene.
