Four members of the same family were found with their throats slit in Bahadurpur village of Niamatpur Upazila, Naogaon. The deceased have been identified as Habibur Rahman (32), son of Nomir Uddin; his wife, Popi Sultana (25); their son, Parvez (9); and their three-year-old daughter, Sadia Akter.
Police have detained four individuals in connection with the homicides that occurred late Monday night. Those detained are Habibur Rahman's father, Nomir Uddin (70); his sisters, Dalima and Halima; and his nephew, Sabuj Rana (25).
While dwelling on the motive behind this sensational mass murder, Naogaon Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tarikul Islam said: "This incident may have occurred due to disputes regarding land and property." Earlier, he visited the crime scene on Tuesday afternoon.
The SP further noted, "The jewelry (earrings) on the deceased housewife was still intact; primarily, this did not appear to be an act of robbery or dacoity." He assured that the mystery behind the murders would be resolved soon, mentioning that three units of the police, including the CID and PBI, are also working on the case.
Regarding the incident, Nomir Uddin, the father of the deceased Habibur Rahman, said, "I went to sleep in a separate room after dinner around 9:00 PM. When I woke up for Fajr prayers at dawn, I found my daughter-in-law Popi Sultana's bloody body lying in the courtyard. I then went to my son's bedroom and found the bodies of Habibur, my grandson Parvez, and my granddaughter Sadia with their throats slit."
While Nomir Uddin claimed he does not know who committed the murders and demanded the arrest of those involved, Moazzem Hossain—the father of the deceased Popi Sultana—offered a different account. He alleged that his daughter’s sister-in-law Shirina, her son Sabuj Rana, and several others are involved in the killing. He further claimed that they had attempted to murder his daughter and son-in-law in the past.
