Young Footballer Dies 15 Minutes After Posting About Neymar

Md. Jewel Rana
Mohammad Jewel Rana was known in his area as a talented footballer and a supporter of Brazil. He had become disappointed after Brazil lost to Norway today.
At around 11 am, Jewel posted a photo of Neymar on his Facebook account. In the caption, he wrote, “Teams win and lose, but I can’t accept this defeat for Neymar.”
Fifteen minutes after making the post, Mohammad Jewel Rana, 25, died in a road accident. The accident occurred at around 11:15 am on Monday in the Daroga Bazar area of Banshkhali Upazila in Chattogram.
Jewel Rana was the son of Shamsul Islam of the Charittyapara area under Ward No. 2 of Chambal Union. He operated his family’s clothing store at the upazila headquarters.
Police said that after watching the Brazil-Norway FIFA World Cup match, Jewel left home later than usual today to go to his shop at the upazila headquarters. Moments before boarding a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, he posted an emotional message on Facebook about Brazil’s Neymar. Fifteen minutes after the vehicle departed, the CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying him collided head-on with another CNG-run auto-rickshaw. He died at the scene.
Bapparaj Talukdar, a neighbor of Jewel Rana, said, “Jewel was a good footballer. Just a few days ago, he was named the best player at Chambal Field. But today he is no longer with us. It is very difficult to accept.”
Jewel’s younger brother, Mohammad Arafat, said, “My brother was already upset after Brazil’s defeat. Later, he died in an accident while traveling to his shop in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.”
When contacted, Banshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Robiul Haque said, “We have seized the two CNG-run auto-rickshaws involved in the accident. The process of filing a case is underway.”
