Child dies in Sylhet as measles death toll hits 109

A child with measles-like symptoms died in Sylhet, bringing the total death toll to 109.
Sylhet Health Department Assistant Director Mohammad Noore Alam Shamim confirmed the matter on Monday.
While the Health Department reported no new lab-confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, 72 new suspected patients were admitted to various hospitals. 268 individuals are undergoing treatment for measles symptoms across the Sylhet division.
Since 1 January, the division has recorded a total of 604 lab-confirmed cases of measles and rubella. This includes 196 cases in Sylhet district, 61 in Habiganj (including 2 rubella cases), 27 in Moulvibazar, and the highest number, 320 cases, in Sunamganj.
The regional death statistics highlighted those 37 deaths occurred in Sylhet district, 11 in Habiganj, 13 in Moulvibazar, and 48 in Sunamganj.
Among the 109 total deaths, 105 were classified as suspected measles and 4 were lab-confirmed.
In response to the outbreak, Health Department has strongly urged parents to ensure children receive the scheduled measles vaccine. They also advise citizens to contact the nearest health center immediately if they notice symptoms such as fever, body rashes, or other signs of measles.
