The alleged deprived activists have staged protests following the announcement of the new Rangamati District Chhatra Dal committee. The protesters demanded the cancellation of the committee, alleging that positions were sold for money and that married individuals and non-students were awarded with key roles.
Intense reactions broke out among a section of activists on social media immediately after the 23-member partial committee was announced on Saturday night. They alleged that the convenor of the Rajasthali Upazila Chhatra Dal has been appointed as the General Secretary of the district committee, despite not being familiar with local activists. Furthermore, they claimed the committee includes married individuals and non-students.
In protest, activists brought out a procession from the Municipality premises on Sunday morning, marching through the main roads of the town. Later, they took a position in front of the Kathaltoli BNP office and protested by burning tires on the road. During the demonstration, they chanted various slogans against Central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, accusing him of forming the committee in exchange for money. One of the slogans was: "Take money if you need it, give a new committee."
Due to the protest, traffic came to a halt on both sides of the main road in front of the BNP office. The protesters said they would continue their program until they received an assurance of dismantling the fresh committee.
Among those present at the protest were the newly announced committee's Vice President Nur Talukdar Munna, Senior Joint General Secretary Abdus Shakoor Javed, Joint Secretary Mokhtar Ahmed, Parvez Hossain Sumon, and Publicity Secretary Abdul Ahad.
Vice President Nur Talukdar Munna said, "The person brought in from Rajasthali and appointed as General Secretary does not know the activists in Rangamati town. He will not be accepted under any circumstances."
Joint Secretary Parvez Hossain Sumon alleged that they had received information regarding the formation of the committee in exchange for money and iPhones. He said to strengthen the organization, the committee must be formed with regular students and demanded the dissolution of the current committee.
On the other hand, the President of the new committee, Oli Ahad, said, "Since Chhatra Dal is a large organization, it is not possible to satisfy everyone at once. Those who did not get their desired positions are expressing their anger." However, he urged everyone to maintain organizational discipline and keep faith in the central leadership.
