India’s Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push an elderly man into Bangladesh through the border in Panchbibi, Joypurhat. However, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents thwarted the attempt.
The incident took place at around 8 am on Sunday near Sub-Pillar 27 of Main Pillar 279 at the Hatkhola border in Panchbibi Upazila.
Following the incident, the BSF kept the elderly man seated at the zero line until the afternoon, creating tension in the border area throughout the day.
According to local residents and BGB sources, the man, aged between 70 to 75, approached farmers working in a field near the border in the morning and asked for food and water. Claiming to be an Indian citizen, he told them that the BSF had forcibly pushed him toward Bangladesh at dawn.
After learning of the matter, the farmers immediately informed the Hatkhola BGB camp.
Confirming the incident, BGB Nayeb Subedar Mahbubur Rahman said the BSF had been attempting to push an Indian citizen into Bangladesh. BGB prevented the move. He said the BSF continued its efforts by keeping the elderly man at the zero line until 3:15 pm.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the BSF has gathered several more people near its Mathurapur camp in India. Local residents fear that authorities may also attempt to push them into Bangladesh.
