Police arrested NCP central joint member secretary Tareq Reza in Jhenaidah.

He was arrested on Sunday at around 6:30 pm outside the Family Zone auditorium adjacent to Jhenidah Stadium.

Local NCP leaders said Tareq Reza had called an emergency press conference at the Family Zone auditorium in Jhenaidah town on Sunday evening. As soon as he arrived in front of the auditorium at around 6:30 pm, police arrested him.

Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Md. Asaduzzaman was present at the scene during the arrest. He told Agamir Somoy that a case had been filed against NCP leader Tarek Reza and several others the previous day (Saturday) over allegations of assault, vandalism, and death threats. He said Tarek Reza was arrested in that case and operations were underway to arrest the other accused.

Earlier on Friday, NCP chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary visited Jhenaidah. Following Jumu’ah prayers that day, clashes, scuffles, and chases took place between local Chhatra Dal activists and NCP activists.

Following the incident, NCP joint member secretary Tarek Reza filed a case at Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station accusing eight local Chhatra Dal leaders and activists. In response, the following day at noon, former vice president of the district Chhatra Dal, Enamul Kabir, filed a counter case naming Tarek Reza and 22 others as accused.
