Rajshahi University Central Students Union (RUCSU) General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar faces a harassment allegation from Nurul Islam Shahid, GS of Nawab Abdul Latif Hall, following an incident during a football match screening at Rajshahi University (RU).

Shahid made the allegations in a Facebook post on Wednesday around 10 pm. However, Ammar has dismissed the claim as completely baseless.

In his post, Shahid said that he went to the Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall field with several students from his hall to watch the World Cup match between Argentina and Algeria.

Around the 30 minutes later, RUCSU Vice President (VP) Mostakur Rahman Zahid and Habibur Rahman Hall Union GS Ashiq Shikdar invited him to sit beside them to watch the match.

Shahid added that about a minute after sitting there, Ammar and Associate Sports Secretary Abu Sayeed Sami arrived and told him to move from that spot. When he asked for the reason, Ammar allegedly grabbed his shirt collar and pulled him, saying that no one was allowed to remain there.

He also alleged that he was eventually forced out of the designated area inside the ropes.

Regarding the harassment allegation, Ammar said, “I did not touch his body. I did not even put my hand on his T-shirt. I did not even respond to the language he used toward me. He was requested to change his location to ensure the event ran smoothly.”

He added, “Everyone was given equal importance. Seating for female students was arranged on the left side of the field. As a result, if anyone stood in front of the screen, it was difficult for them to watch the match. As part of my duty, I was present in that area and did not allow anyone to stand there.”

Ammar countered that after Shahid arrived, students sitting behind him could not see the game and he requested Shahid to move to the right side of the screen, but Shahid left the area reacting angrily.

Regarding the incident, Zahid said that a verbal altercation occurred between them. However, he was unaware of what happened before that. He added, “Their argument was disrupting the environment and discipline of the game. Therefore, to bring the situation under control, I immediately stopped the matter. However, I have no information about the root cause of the dispute.”
