Florida Homicide: Limon Laid to Rest in His Ancestral Village

Jamil Ahmed Limon, a Bangladeshi PhD student who was murdered in Florida, USA, has finally returned home as a lifeless body. His final farewell was marked by tears and the profound grief of relatives, casting a heavy shadow over his entire village.
On Monday evening, he was buried in his family graveyard in the Laldoba area of Madarganj Upazila, Jamalpur. Earlier, his funeral prayer (Janaza) was held at the Laldoba Government Primary School grounds after Maghrib prayers. Relatives, neighbors, and people from various walks of life gathered there to bid him a tearful goodbye.
Limon's remians arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on a flight Monday morning. Following the completion of official formalities, the body was handed over to his family. It was brought to his home via ambulance around 3:30 PM. Upon seeing his remains, his family members broke down in uncontrollable tears.
Limon's father, Zahurul Haque, shared his grief: "I never caused my son any pain. My only sorrow is why he was murdered with such suffering. I never even laid a hand on him; I only ever corrected him with words."
Recalling their last conversations, his father said, "He always used to tell me, 'Dad, don't worry. You don't need to work anymore; if necessary, just do a little business.' I would tell him that business requires money I don't have."
He further expressed his hope that such a tragedy never befalls any other student studying at home or abroad. He mentioned that he regarded Brishti—another victim—as his own daughter and demanded the maximum punishment for those responsible for the deaths of his son and Brishti.
Background and Academic Journey
According to family sources, Zahurul Haque moved to Dhaka with his family in 1994 and worked in a textile factory. Although living in the city, they maintained ties with their village.
Schooling: Limon passed his SSC from Maona Model High School in Gazipur in 2014.
College: He completed his HSC from Birshreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College in 2016.
Higher Education: He earned his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Khulna University.
PhD: In July 2024, he moved to the United States to pursue a PhD at the University of South Florida, specializing in Geography, Environmental Science, and Policy.
Jamil Ahmed Limon and Nahida Sultana Brishti went missing on April 16. On April 24, US police recovered Limon's body. Law enforcement officials in the United States have since arrested Limon's roommate in connection with the incident.
