Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said whether people are Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists or Christians in Bangladesh, the country belongs to everyone.
He made these remarks during a rally in the Paglapir area along the way after setting off for Rangpur on Tuesday.
Tarique added, “From the day the people of Bangladesh gave BNP the responsibility to run the country, I have tried to stand by the working-class people. Already, by waiving agricultural loans of Tk 10,000 for farmers, we have launched their agriculture cards and family cards. We have arranged allowances for religious leaders, including those of mosques and temples.
“Today is Durga Puja for the followers of the Sanatan religion in Bangladesh. We want - just as people of all religions and castes joined together to liberate this country during Bangladesh’s independence - in that exact same way, we want to build the country taking people of all religions along. So let us promise, those of us who are Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians in Bangladesh, this country belongs to everyone.”
Tarique arrived in Rangpur as part of his visit to mandaps across three divisions outside Dhaka on Durga Puja. Earlier, he set off by road for Rangpur. On the way from Saidpur to Rangpur, he greeted thousands of party leaders, activists, and people standing on both sides of the highway by waving his hands.
Along the journey, he delivered speeches at two street rallies in the Taraganj and Paglapir areas and exchanged greetings with people.
According to the itinerary, Tarique will visit the mandap at the Radha Govinda Temple in Rangpur city and exchange greetings with members of the Hindu community there.
