Police launched another drive against teen gangs in Cumilla, detaining 363 people on Friday.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Lutfur Rahman confirmed the matter on Saturday.
District police and Detective Branch (DB) jointly executed the operation across 18 police stations led by Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman.
According to police and locals, public discussion and criticism of teen gang activity in Cumilla erupted following the murder of Apratim, the 13-year-old son of Cumilla University teacher Nahida Begum.
Lutfur said authorities will verify and screen the criminal involvement of 363 detainees before taking necessary legal action.
In 2022, a clash over establishing local dominance broke out in front of the Missionary School in Cumilla city between two rival teen gangs, the Eagle Group and the Ratan Group. A man named Md Shahadat died during the confrontation.
During the latest operation, police arrested Ratan, the head of the Ratan Group and the prime suspect in the murder case. Besides the murder charge, Ratan faces several cases involving arms and other offenses.
