The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push six individuals into Bangladesh through the Rangmohol border in Gangni Upazila of Meherpur. However, their attempt was foiled due to the instant response by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel. Later, the BSF sent all six individuals back into Indian territory.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning near main pillar number 137 along the border.
Nayeb Subedar Belayet Hossain, the camp commander of the Rangmohol BGB camp, confirmed the matter.
He said that early in the morning, members of India's Digalkandi BSF post gathered six men and women in the no-man's-land along the border. Upon spotting them, the BGB patrol team immediately took a alert position, which thwarted the push-in attempt. Later, around 8:00 AM, the BSF personnel withdrew the six individuals from the no-man's-land and escorted inside Indian territory.
Border residents said BSF members previously tried to push people through while staying hidden in the jute farms during jute growing season. They expressed concern that similar attempts are being made again under the cover of darkness caused by the current foggy weather. Local residents added that they remain fully prepared to assist the BGB in preventing such incidents.
