Authorities instructed not to conduct activities in the name of the Rajshahi University Central Students Union (RUCSU) and hall unions.
Mentioning that the committee’s tenure ended on 26 October, the administration said there is no scope for any student organization to carry out activities using the name of RUCSU.
The university’s public relations office confirmed the matter in a press release on Tuesday.
The press release added that the university administration came to know about news on social media regarding various activities, including the supply of gymnasium equipment through hall unions on behalf of RUCSU. The authorities consider that this information is spreading confusion.
Earlier in the morning, under the banner of RUCSU, various exercise equipment was distributed across 11 residence halls and the gymnasium of the university.
RUCSU former vice president (AGS) Salman Sabbir told Agamir Somoy, “Every work of RUCSU and the collection of funds for the gymnasium, everything was done with the written approval of the Vice-Chancellor. Those who are questioning the jurisdiction of our work, their claims are baseless.”
Alleging that work is being obstructed for a different motive, he said, “According to the 1973 Ordinance of the university, although the committee has legal validity to perform duties until the next election is held, we do not want to hold onto power. We are prepared to quickly hand over responsibility after finishing the work that has already been started.”
