DB takes over Rangpur family murder investigation

Detective Branch (DB) has taken over the investigation into the murder of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his family members in Rangpur.
Sanatan Chakraborty, deputy commissioner of the DB of Rangpur Metropolitan Police confirmed the matter on Saturday. DB Inspector Zinnat Ali has been appointed as the new investigating officer.
He said two suspects in the case gave confessional statements in court under Section 164. They learned from court sources that the suspects provided information consistent with the statements made by the police commissioner during his press conference.
However, the confessions also revealed some more information that the suspects had not previously disclosed to the police.
Earlier, on Sunday, two individuals, Mugdho Das, 23, and Siddhartha Das, 19, were arrested in connection with the incident.
On Saturday night, the bodies of Ganapati Chakraborty, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, 50, their daughter Agami Chakraborty, 25, and their son Ayush Chakraborty Priyam, 12, were recovered from their home.
Police said all four victims were strangled to death. Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner (DIG) Abdul Mabud added that Ganapati, his wife, and their children were killed after Ganapati objected to Yaba consumption happening on the roof of their home.
However, discrepancies have emerged between the description of the murder provided by the police commissioner and the findings of the autopsy physician.
