Shehrin Amin Bhuiyan Monami has stepped down from her position as Assistant Proctor of the University of Dhaka. She announced the decision in a post on social media.
In the post, Shehrin Monami wrote that although she has taught at the Bangladesh University of Professionals, Jagannath University, and the University of Dhaka, she never had any plan to take on an administrative role.
However, she said that on August 28, 2024, after receiving a phone call from the then Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, she became interested in taking on the responsibility.
Expressing her feelings, Shehrin Monami wrote: “I am a very ordinary lecturer, an even more ordinary person. And yet, such a huge responsibility—one that is usually entrusted to more senior teachers—was given to me!”
Paying gratutudes to former Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, she noted that over the past two years she learned from him how to handle situations with patience and restraint, and how to care for and protect students.
Describing the period following the July movement as an “unprecedented” experience, she remarked that, to her knowledge, no previous proctor or proctorial team had ever faced such circumstances.
She also extended her best wishes to the newly appointed proctor and his team. At the end of her post, she wrote: “It was an absolute honour to serve with my team and under the leadership of our Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed sir.”
Addressing the newly appointed officials, she said: “Congratulations to our new Proctor and his team. Wishing this team all the best in carrying out this significant responsibility.”
