Four schoolgirls have gone missing after leaving home for school in Bauphal Upazila of Patuakhali. Two days after the incident, there has been no sign of them, heightening anxiety among their families. Police say every possible effort is underway to rescue the missing students.
According to family members, the girls left their respective homes on Sunday morning (10 May) from Nazirpur–Taterkathi Union, saying they were heading to school. When they failed to return home, family members filed a general diary (GD) at Bauphal Police Station.
The missing students are Sanjida Akter (12), Ismat Jarin (12), Sanjida Akter Raisa (13), and Ayesha Akter (15). Among them, Sanjida Akter and Ismat Jarin are seventh-grader at Nazirpur Chhoto Dalima Secondary School. Sanjida Akter Raisa studies in the eighth grade at the same school, while Ayesha Akter is a student of another educational institution.
Family members and locals said the girls left home as usual for school in the morning, but no information has been found about their whereabouts since then. Searches in various possible locations have so far yielded no results.
Teachers at Nazirpur Chhoto Dalima Secondary School said the three students were absent from school that day. They later learned from guardians that the girls had left home saying they were going to school. Despite contacting classmates and acquaintances and searching different places, no information about their location has been found.
Family members said they initially searched the school and relatives’ homes. Failing to find them, they filed a GD at Bauphal Police Station that night.
Investigating officer SI Golam Mostafa said none of the missing students had mobile phones, making it difficult to trace their location using technology. However, searches are being conducted across various modes of transport, including buses and launches.
Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam of Bauphal Police Station said on Monday that the matter is being investigated with utmost seriousness and police operations to recover the four students are ongoing.
Speaking at around 11:00 am on Tuesday, he said, “The operation is continuing. We have identified their last known location and are making our best possible efforts.”
