Water Resources Minister
Local government elections tougher than national election

Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee
Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee has said that local government elections will pose a greater challenge than national parliamentary elections.
The minister said the previous national election was challenging, but the upcoming Union Parishad elections would be even more difficult as there would be no party symbols.
He made the remarks on Friday afternoon while speaking as the chief guest at the annual sports and prize distribution ceremony of Haji Fateh Mohammadia Dakhil Madrasa in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.
Addressing potential candidates, the minister said those seeking nomination for the chairman post on behalf of the party must be people-friendly. He said they must maintain strong connections with the public and have a mindset of serving ordinary people. Those who have long stayed close to people and remained aware of their needs should come forward as candidates.
Earlier, the minister visited an erosion-hit canal embankment in Digli under WAPDA and issued necessary instructions to concerned officials.
Also present at the event were the minister’s private secretary Jamshed Alam Rana, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kathoyapru Marma, BFF Vice President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, and former Digli Union Parishad chairman Golam Sarwar.
