BGB-BSF flag meeting was held inside Indian territory near international border pillar 812. Lieutenant Colonel Naziur Rahman, commanding officer of the 51 BGB Rangpur Battalion, led the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) delegation. Vinod Kumar, commanding officer of the 174 BSF Battalion, represented the Border Security Force (BSF).
During the meeting, BGB strongly objected, stating that under the 1947 border law, no permanent structure or fencing is allowed within 150 yards of the international border. However, BSF has initiated the installation of bamboo poles within just 50 yards of the zero line, which BGB described as a clear violation of border regulations.
In response, BSF Commanding Officer Vinod Kumar said survey work was being conducted to measure land for acquisition in the border area. He also alleged that some Bangladeshi farmers had been harvesting and taking away paddy and maize from Indian territory.
Following the allegation, the BGB commanding officer expressed regret and assured that necessary steps would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
No one from the BGB officially commented on the meeting. However, a source said Lieutenant Colonel Naziur Rahman clearly stated that Bangladesh has no objection to land acquisition inside Indian territory. He added that, according to international rules, no barbed-wire fencing or permanent structure can be built within 150 yards of the zero line.
The source further said the BSF commanding officer also pledged to refrain from constructing any permanent structures within 150 yards of the border and from any future “push-in” activities.
The meeting also emphasized strengthening communication between border outposts and company commanders of both countries to ensure the swift and peaceful resolution of any emerging border issues.
