Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) foiled an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push nine women into Bangladesh through the Khiyarmamudpur border in Birampur, Dinajpur.

BGB 20 Joypurhat Battalion Subedar Tiya Alam confirmed the matter. The incident occurred around 4:30 am on Saturday, near border pillar 291/20 S.

The women said they are residents of Gopalganj, Sirajganj, and Tangail. They also claimed to possess National Identity Cards (NID) for themselves and their family members, mentioning that they had entered India through brokers.

According to locals, BSF attempted to the women, but BGB prevented them from crossing into Bangladesh. Since then, they have remained on the Sreerampur area of India.

Around 7 am, a team of around 30 BSF members attempted to push the women into Bangladesh once again. This led to an argument between BGB and BSF. As the situation became heated, locals took up sticks and took positions in the border area.

Union Parishad Member Shukur Ali said, “The villagers are assisting BGB and no one will be allowed to enter Bangladesh without verification.”

Subedar Tiya Alam added that the commander of the BSF’s Bhimpur camp has been informed that no Indian citizen will be allowed to enter Bangladesh and BGB remains on alert at the border.
