Police detain 624 in Cumilla teen gang crackdown

Police detained 624 people in an operation launched against teen gangs in Cumilla on Wednesday night, apprehending members of teen gangs, drug addicts, political party workers, and muggers.

District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Anisuzzaman confirmed the matter on Thursday morning.

Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, the son of Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the Department of Bangla at Comilla University, was murdered. Several media reports were published regarding the involvement of teen gang members in his murder.

Following his funeral prayer at the university, students blockaded the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway for nearly two hours to demand action against teen gangs and muggers. Alongside this, demands began mounting across the district for strict police action.

Anisuzzaman said, “If there are any school or college students among them, they will be released to their families or authorities.”
