40 cattle stolen in Gazipur in four days

Locals reported around 40 cattle theft cases in the last four days across Kapasia, Gazipur. Kapasia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Nasir Ahmed confirmed the matter.

Locals said an organized gang of thieves is stealing cows from homes and farm cowsheds and quickly moving them elsewhere. To stop the thefts, many cow owners are guarding their properties overnight. Others have enhanced cowshed security, while many are spending sleepless nights in anxiety

They added that cattle thefts have also occurred though written complaints have not been filed with the police station for all incidents. As a result, locals believe the actual number of stolen cattle could be even higher.

Farmers and cattle farm owners complained that the panic of cattle theft begins as soon as evening falls. While thefts occurred in an isolated manner in the past, news of cattle theft from one area or another in the upazila is now being heard almost every night.

They have demanded that the organized gang of thieves be quickly identified and brought to justice. They called for police patrols at night, searches of suspicious vehicles, and the establishment of checkpoints on important roads, marketplaces, and potential smuggling routes.

OC Nasir Ahmed said a watch system involving local participation with the police will be organized to prevent cattle theft. Checkpoints will be set up in key locations and marketplace areas, and a daily patrol system will be established with the cooperation of the public.
