German tourist robbed in Natore by fake railway official

A man fled with the bag of German tourist Kirill Lander after falsely introducing himself as a railway official at Natore on Thursday.

Tracking the signal of his stolen laptop, Kirill Lander was staying in Rajshahi. Although the location of the laptop was identified several times, the police could not definitively recover it.

On Wednesday, after touring Bogura, Kirill was traveling by train from Shantahar toward Darshana. By mistake, he got off at Natore. There, he met a man who identified himself as a railway official.

A while later, when going to withdraw money from an ATM at the railway station, Kirill left his bag with that man. Upon returning, he found that both the man and his bag were gone. The bag contained a MacBook laptop and a DSLR camera.

Later, he learned that the person was not a railway official at all. Following the incident, Kirill filed a general diary (GD) at Natore Sadar Police Station. After that, efforts to trace the location of the laptop began. At first, a signal was received in the Railgate area of Rajshahi.

Around 11 pm on Wednesday, he arrived in Rajshahi and positioned himself near Mahila College. Although RMP, DB, RAB, Tourist Police, and Railway Police jointly conducted a drive there, the exact location could not be confirmed.

Speaking with members of law enforcement, it was learned that since laptops do not have SIM cards, pinpointing the exact location becomes difficult due to technological limitations. On Thursday at 7:40 am, a signal was received again near Abdulpur Railway Station.

At that time, although searches were conducted on the Titumir Express and Banalata Express, neither the laptop nor the camera was found. CCTV footage yielded a photograph of the suspect, which has been spread through various channels.

Rajshahi Railway GRP Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Hafizur Rahman said, “Foreign tourists are our guests. Various units of the police are working to recover his belongings. If the exact location is found, it will be possible to recover the laptop.”

Kirill added that the situation is not very good, but they hope to reach close to the exact location. His passport and mobile phone remain with him. The laptop contains important information and data. This is his first trip to Bangladesh.

It was learned that Kirill remained at Rajshahi Railway Police Station until Thursday afternoon. The previous night, arrangements were made for his stay at a hotel near the station, and police are also arranging his meals.
