Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to install automatic traffic lights at 50 more intersections across the capital. He also ordered measures to curb air and noise pollution by controlling emissions from brick kilns, stopping the excessive use of vehicle horns, and swiftly removing unfit vehicles from the roads.

The directives were issued on Saturday during a meeting on environmental pollution held at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon.

According to the Prime Minister's Press Wing, the meeting discussed a range of initiatives to tackle air and noise pollution. Participants emphasized the need for immediate and effective action to reduce air pollution caused by brick kilns.

The prime minister also stressed the importance of adopting environmentally friendly alternative technologies for brick production.

The meeting also reviewed measures to control the excessive use of vehicle horns in the capital. The prime minister instructed law enforcement agencies to enforce existing regulations more strictly.

Officials also discussed the possible use of artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies, such as traffic surveillance cameras, to help monitor and curb unnecessary horn use.

In addition, the prime minister emphasized the need for effective steps to quickly remove unfit, expired, and environmentally polluting buses, trucks, and other vehicles from Dhaka's roads. He also directed the rapid installation of automatic traffic light systems at at least 50 more locations across the city.

The meeting was attended by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, State Minister Shaikh Faridul Islam, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, the Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Saimum Parvez, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Anisur Rahman, and senior officials from various ministries and government agencies.
