An air conditioner (AC) explosion triggered a fire in the minor operation theater (OT) at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZRMCH) Hospital in Bogura.
Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) confirmed the matter.
The blaze occurred around 11:30 pm on Sunday inside room 151 of the outpatient eye department and destroyed various medical equipment. However, the incident caused no casualties.
Witnesses reported that the fire spread across the room following the AC explosion, burning various instruments used for eye surgery. Hospital employees later brought the flames under control using fire extinguishers. Authorities could not immediately confirm the cause of the AC explosion or the exact extent of monetary damage.
Following the occurrence, hospital workers allegedly attempted to obstruct media personnel when journalists arrived at the facility to collect information and take photographs. Journalists tried to reach officials via mobile phone for comments on the matter, but officials did not respond. Nobody spotted any senior officials at the scene after the incident.
