For the first time in the capital’s public transport system, the government is moving toward introducing a “social protection”-based special facility. The Finance Division has given its consent to offer a 25 percent fare discount on single-journey tickets on the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Company Limited (Dhaka Metro Rail) for senior citizens aged 65 years and above, as well as for persons with disabilities.
Officials say this is not merely a decision to reduce fares; rather, it represents a significant policy step toward making the urban transport system more humane, inclusive, and accessible for vulnerable groups.
