Five Killed in Bay of Bengal Trawler Sinking

A fishing trawler carrying 12 fishermen from Kutubdia in Cox's Bazar sank in the Bay of Bengal amid rough weather, leaving five dead and seven others rescued. Authorities recovered the bodies Monday evening after towing the vessel ashore.
The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin, 20, son of Shamsul Alam of South Amjakhali in Kutubdia; Nasir Uddin, 21, of Kakpara in Magnama Union of Pekua Upazila; Md. Karim, 21, son of Abul Kashem of the same area; Ayub Monir, 20, son of Abdul Mabud; and Kamal, 48, of Haiderpara in Ali Akbar Deil, Kutubdia Upazila.
Faruk Ahmed, inspector (investigation) of Kutubdia Police Station, confirmed the incident. Quoting local residents, he said a fishing trawler owned by Nurul Absar left for the Bay of Bengal on Sunday evening with 12 fishermen on board. The vessel sank in the deep sea early Monday after encountering rough weather.
Seven fishermen were rescued alive following the accident, but five remained missing. Rescuers later towed the sunken trawler ashore on Monday evening and recovered their bodies from inside the vessel.
Faruk Ahmed said authorities are completing the necessary legal procedures following the recovery of the bodies.
