In Khulna, a Jamaat-e-Islami leader was injured when a bomb, hidden by miscreants inside a packet of a puffed rice, exploded.
The injured man is M M Monirul Islam (63). He is the president of a Jamaat unit in Ward No. 7 of Senhati at Dighalia.
The incident occurred at his home on the west side of Senhati Kaler Pukur around 5:45 AM Tuesday. The loud sound of the explosion spread panic in the area.
Local residents said that around 5:45 AM, while Monirul Islam was returning home from the mosque after offering Fajr prayers, he noticed a polythene packet of muri in front of his room's door.
Thinking someone had mistakenly left the muri outside, he took the packet inside and kept it in his room. As soon as he placed the muri packet on the floor, it exploded with a loud bang. The Jamaat leader's body got burned and furniture inside the room caught fire.
Later, locals came and brought the fire under control and rescued the Jamaat leader, admitting him to Dighalia Health Complex.
Officer-in-Charge of Dighalia Police Station Arup Kumar Chowdhury said, "The incident is mysterious. Upon receiving the news, evidence has been collected from the scene. The incident has been reported to higher authorities. Additionally, efforts are being made to find out the underlying cause."
