Court sentences madrasa teacher to 8 years for attempted rape

A court sentenced a madrasa teacher to eight years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to rape an eight-year-old child in Dewangonj, Jamalpur.
Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim of the Jamalpur Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Daman Tribunal-1 announced the verdict on Thursday. The court also imposed a fine of Tk 2,00,000 on him and directed that the fine money be given to the child.
The madrasa teacher is named Saidur Rahman alias Saidur Munshi, 45. He is a teacher at the Madinatul Ulum Nurani Model Madrasa.
According to the case complaint and court documents, on 26 April, Saidur attempted to rape an eight-year-old third-grade student. Following this incident, the child’s father, Abdul Khalek, filed a case at Dewangonj Police Station on 3 May.
Md Fazlul Huq represented the state in the case, while Md Mobarak Hossain appeared for the defense. Fazlul said five witnesses testified in the case.
