Egg Attack on Patwary, Police Allegedly Refuse to Take Case

NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwary was attacked on Friday after Jummah prayers, as he exited the Pouro Collector Jame Mosque located opposite the Deputy Commissioner’s residence in Jhenaidah.
Nasiruddin Patwary later said he went to Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station to file a case after the attack but was unable to do so. In a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday afternoon, he wrote, “I came to the police station seeking justice, but the case is not being accepted.” In the comments, he further wrote, “The electricity has been off since noon. It feels like not a police station, but a dark cave.”
Shortly afterward, he made another post, saying, “I am now staging a sit-in in front of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station from 7 pm. The case must be filed. Justice must be ensured.”
According to the scheduled program, as he exited the Pouro Collector Jame Mosque after Friday prayers held opposite the Deputy Commissioner’s residence, Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal leaders and activists allegedly launched the attack in the presence of police.
Describing the attack, he said eggs and bricks were first thrown at them. He added that attackers then struck them suddenly with hockey sticks, leaving three people with head injuries and several others injured. He also said he was punched and kicked directly, and that attackers snatched mobile phones, cameras, and wallets.
Referring to legal action, Nasiruddin said in his post that they were currently at the police station preparing to file a case. He also alleged that Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and BNP activists were preparing for another attack in front of the police station.
Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman said eggs were thrown at NCP leader Nasiruddin as he was leaving the mosque after prayers. He said several people were injured, though none seriously. He added that a case is being prepared by the injured parties.
