Unknown attackers targeted Nasiruddin Patwary, the chief organizer of the NCP. The incident took place on Friday after Jummah prayers. He was leaving the Pouro Collector Jame Mosque, located opposite the Deputy Commissioner’s residence in Jhenaidah, when the attack occurred.
Following the attack, around 3:00 pm, the NCP leader informed the incident in a post on his verified Facebook page.
In the post, he wrote that after completing Friday prayers at the mosque as part of a pre-scheduled program in Jhenaidah, leaders and activists of the Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal attacked in the presence of police as soon as he came out.
Describing the attack, he further wrote that eggs and bricks were first thrown at them. He said attackers then struck them suddenly with hockey sticks. Three of their members sustained head injuries, and several others were wounded. He also alleged that attackers punched and kicked him directly and snatched mobile phones, cameras, and wallets from their group.
Referring to legal action, Nasiruddin said in the post that they were currently staying at the police station and preparing to file a case. He also alleged that Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and BNP activists were preparing for another attack in front of the police station.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said Nasiruddin was leaving the mosque after Friday prayers when Islami University Chhatra Dal convener Sahed Ahammed approached him to speak. At one point, some youths from behind threw eggs and attacked, injuring several local NCP activists. Following the incident, party leaders staged a protest and demanded the resignation of the home minister and law minister, along with the immediate arrest of those involved.
On the other hand, Sahed Ahammed, convener of Islami University Chhatra Dal, said he met NCP leader Nasiruddin after prayers and requested him not to defame senior BNP leaders. He claimed that during this time, an agitated crowd threw eggs at Nasiruddin and his supporters, and he was not involved in the incident.
Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman said eggs were thrown at NCP leader Nasiruddin while he was leaving the mosque after prayers. Several people were injured, though none seriously. He added that a case is being prepared by the injured parties.
Nasiruddin Patwary has previously been targeted in two separate egg attacks earlier this year. On January 23, he was attacked with eggs and muddy water during a campaign program in Dhaka’s Siddheshwari area. Again, on January 27, he faced another egg attack while attending a ‘Pitha Utsob’ program at Habibullah Bahar College in Dhaka’s Ramna area, forcing a brief disruption of the event.
