Four killed as pickup van overturns in Rangamati

Four passengers were killed and two others injured after a pickup van overturned in Rangamati. The accident occurred around 6:00 am Sunday in front of the Manikchhari Army Camp in Sadar upazila.

The deceased were Meghrani Chakma, Shantana Chakma, Shobha Chakma and Shanti Ranjan Chakma.

Locals said a pickup van was traveling from Rangamati town toward Kutukchhari Market. When it reached the Manikchhari area, the vehicle overturned. Three people died at the scene. Among the injured, pickup driver Gyan Bikash Chakma and Sumon Chakma are receiving treatment at Rangamati General Hospital.

Dr. Shawkat Akbar, resident medical officer at Rangamati General Hospital, said Shobha died while being taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Rangamati Kotwali Police Station SI Md. Tofazzal Hossain said the bodies have been kept at Rangamati General Hospital. The process of handing over the bodies is underway after completion of the inquest reports.

Kotwali Police Station OC Jasim Uddin said the preliminary information indicates that the pickup lost control and crashed. However, police are investigating why the vehicle lost control.
