At 8 AM the Khagrachhari Gate area bustles with the footsteps of tourists and locals. However, due to a half-day blockade in Sajek tourism area along with Khagrachhari and Rangamati districts, the area appeared unpopulated, Saturday morning. Shops did not open due to the absence of tourists.
The Students-People's Struggle Council has called a half-day blockade on roads and waterways in Khagrachhari and Rangamati districts today, Saturday, in support of the road blockade called by two organizations of Sajek and in protest against the security forces' attack on the blockaders.
Due to the blockade, long-distance vehicles have been suspended in Khagrachhari since morning. However, battery-powered three-wheelers are operating within the city. Night buses that arrived in Khagrachhari at dawn entered the city under special security.
Meanwhile, in support of the blockade, picketers attempted to stage a protest by creating road obstructions near the Fire Service area around 7:30 AM. At that time, police chased them away. Apart from this incident, no other protests were reported anywhere until morning.
To keep the situation under control, police have been deployed at various intersections of the city. Additionally, members of police, DB, and other security forces are patrolling.
