Death penalty for rape, murder of child in Magura

A court has sentenced Hasan Sheikh to death for the rape and murder of Razia Khatun, a sixth-grade student in Sreepur, Magura.
Judge Md Mizanur Rahman of the District and Sessions Judge Court delivered the verdict. Public prosecutor Sakhawat Hossain confirmed the matter.
According to the case statement, Razia, 11, went missing on 17 March 2022. Her body was recovered the following day from a papaya garden adjacent to the Kumar River.
Within two days, Hasan, 23, an easybike driver, was arrested in a joint operation by RAB and the police. During primary interrogation, he confessed to strangling the child after raping her and then slitting her throat with a blade to ensure her death.
On the same day, the girl’s father, Akij Shekh, filed a case at Sreepur Police Station. Later, investigating officer SI Habibur Rahman submitted a charge sheet to the court, naming Hasan as the sole accused.
The court delivered the verdict after a four-year judicial process.
