NCP Central Joint Member Secretary Tareq Reza secured bail a day after police arrested him in a case filed by Chhatra Dal in Jhenaidah. On Monday morning, the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-1 of the district granted his bail petition. However, Judge Sabyasachi Roy denied bail to Ayon Rahman Khan, a central leader of Jubo Shakti, who was arrested in the same case.
Tareq Reza walked out of Jhenaidah District Jail at around 10:30 a.m. Defense lawyer Ismail Hossain confirmed the matter.
Former district Chhatra Dal president Enamul Kabir filed the case with Sadar Police Station on Saturday, naming 22 people, including Tarek, and accusing 60 unidentified individuals.
Police from Sadar Police Station arrested Tarek and Ayon on Sunday evening. Local NCP leaders said Tarek had called an emergency press conference at the Family Zone convention hall in Jhenaidah town. Police arrested him as soon as he arrived in front of the venue at around 6:30 p.m.
At the time, Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Asaduzzaman said, “A case was filed yesterday (Saturday) against several people, including NCP leader Tareq, over allegations of assault, vandalism, and death threats. He has been arrested in that case.”
Earlier, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary visited Jhenaidah on Friday. Following Friday prayers that day, NCP activists and local Chhatra Dal leaders and activists became involved in scuffles, clashes, and chase-and-counter-chase incidents.
Following the incident, NCP Joint Member Secretary Tareq Reza filed a case with Sadar Police Station against eight local Chhatra Dal leaders and activists. The following afternoon, district Chhatra Dal leader Enamul Kabir filed a counter-case.
