A fire broke out in abandoned railway coaches that had been lying for a long time at Banglabazar SRB Railway Station in Chattogram city. Several coaches of the train were severely damaged in the fire.

The incident occurred at around 6:15 pm Friday. The fire was brought under control after nearly an hour of efforts by three Fire Service units.

Flames were seen raging through at least two coaches located next to each other among the abandoned train coaches. One of the coaches had the words “Shovon Chair” written on its exterior. After the fire broke out, flames came out through the windows and doors of the coaches and the surrounding area was covered in thick black smoke. Vines and weeds had grown on the train coaches as they had been abandoned for a long time.

According to Fire Service sources, after receiving information about the fire at around 6:15 pm, three vehicles from the Fire Service’s Bandar and Agrabad stations quickly reached the scene. Fire Service personnel brought the fire under control at around 7:15 pm after nearly an hour of efforts. However, the lack of an adequate water source around the scene made it difficult for the personnel to extinguish the fire. The shortage of water mainly delayed the firefighting efforts, and the coaches burned during that time.

The Fire Service’s Agrabad control room said it was not immediately known how the fire started in the abandoned coaches. The extent of the financial damage caused by the fire to the abandoned coaches could not be determined immediately. The entire matter will be investigated to determine the main cause of the fire.
