A police constable was arrested on charges of attempting to forcibly take three cartons of parcels from SA Paribahan Courier Service’s office in Chattogram city on Monday night.
Kotwali Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mohammad Iqbal Hossain confirmed the matter. During the attempted hijacking, a man identifying himself as a RAB member fled.
The arrested individual, Krishan Barua, 27, is a resident of Mirsarai Upazila in Chattogram. He is a constable in the ICT branch of the office of the Superintendent of Police in Cumilla district. The person who fled is named Noton Barua. His home is also in the same upazila. Police initially learned that he is also serving in a force.
Morshed, an official of the organization, said upon hearing the news of Krishan’s arrest, several shopkeepers and employees from Reazuddin Bazar in the city gathered in front of SA Paribahan.
They alleged that Krishan and Noton, identifying themselves as RAB and police personnel, had also misappropriated various goods from their shops at different times. They were fed up with the extortion by the two.
Inspector Iqbal told Agamir Somoy, “Police Constable Krishan attempted to misappropriate three parcels from the counter of SA Paribahan through fraud by giving a false identity. Accompanying him was a person named Noton Barua, who gave his name as Niloy Barua. A case has been filed on behalf of SA Paribahan.”
