A man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head at his residence in Hajipara, Chattogram on Saturday morning.
Double Mooring Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Alam confirmed the matter. The deceased, Shahid Hossain, 45, had worked at Al-Arafah Bank.
According to the police, he shot himself in the head with a pistol due to domestic disputes.
Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Nurul Alam Ashek said people brought Shahid to the hospital and the doctor declared him dead around 12:45 pm.
OC Shahinur told Agamir Somoy that Shahid was an officer at the Al-Arafah Bank. A year ago, he was working at the bank’s Hathazari branch. He resigned from his job a month ago after being transferred to Brahmanbaria.
He added that around 7 am, a sudden loud sound of gunfire in the drawing room startled the family members, and neighbors also rushed to the scene. They found Shahid sitting on a chair in the drawing room, groaning in a bloody state, and rushed him to the hospital.
Upon receiving the news, the police went to the hospital and took Shahid’s wife, Sharmin Akhter, into custody.
OC said, “Shahid left his bank job after being posted to a distant district. He was depressed about this. His wife Sharmin said her husband suspected her deeply. There was a lot of unrest in the family because of this.
“We have initially learned that the pistol does not have a license. Therefore, it is an illegal weapon. We are interrogating his wife about how and from where Shahid collected this weapon. Other family members will also be interrogated.”
