Five people were killed and at least six others injured after a truck ran over them in Sitakunda, Chattogram. The accident occurred around 1:00 am on Tuesday on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, south of King of Kumira Convention Hall in the Baro Kumira area of the upazila.

Among the deceased, a woman named Swapna and two children, Ibrahim (6), and Rakib, eight months old, have been identified. They were from Netrokona. Police have been unable to identify the others.

Sub-Inspector Md Ziauddin of the Kumira Highway Police Outpost told Agamir Somoy that a bus traveling from Chattogram city to Netrokona had stopped near Kumira Royal Gate due to a mechanical problem. The passengers had got off the bus and were waiting beside the road.

At that time, a speeding truck first hit the rear of the bus and then ran over several passengers. Three people died at the scene. Two others died after being taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Sub-Inspector Nurul Al Ashek of the hospital police outpost said doctors declared an unidentified woman and the child Rakib dead upon their arrival at the hospital. Several of the injured are receiving treatment in different wards.
