Classes and examinations at CUET will resume on Wednesday following a 35-day stalemate.
The Teachers’ Association decided to restart academic activities during its general meeting. Then the Teachers’ Association, Officers’ Association, and Staff Association issued a joint call urging students to return to their classrooms.
However, students said even after returning to class, they will continue their movement and protest programs demanding the reinstatement of the former vice-chancellor (VC).
On Sunday, students sent an open letter to teachers requesting them to create an environment suitable for returning to class. However, in the letter, students added that they have no scope to recognize or consent to the newly appointed VC Sheikh Shariful Alam. At the same time, students affirmed that they will not backtrack from their single-point demand to reinstate the former VC to the post.
They warned that if the new VC attempts to enter the campus, they will immediately declare a shutdown program once again.
Meanwhile, a six-member advisory committee from the University Grants Commission (UGC) will meet with students on Wednesday to resolve the ongoing crisis. On that same day, students are scheduled to attend classes as well as take part in examinations.
Led by UGC Member Abdullah-Al-Mamun, the committee members will visit the campus. During the visit, they will hold separate sessions with teachers, students, officers, and employees. The committee will formulate recommendations based on the opinions of the involved parties to resolve the crisis and restore educational activities.
On 21 September, authorities removed former CUET VC Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem and appointed Shariful as the new VC. In protest, students launched a shutdown program on 22 September. Teachers, officers, and employees later joined the movement.
