While the T20 World Cup-style buzz continues and Bangladesh prepares to take on Australia in a T20 series opener, an unexpected 'football show' featuring Lionel Messi took center stage at the Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday morning.
The first match of the T20 series is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM local time. However, today, wednesday, fans at the stadium were treated to a live screening of the FIFA World Cup match between Argentina and Algeria, broadcast on the venue’s giant screen.
The screening began at 7:00 AM and was attended by ground staff as well as stadium officials and employees. The giant screen, which will be used later for the Bangladesh-Australia match, was tested during the broadcast.
According to officials, the early screening served both as a technical trial and an opportunity for staff to enjoy the game together in a relaxed setting.
The atmosphere quickly turned lively as spectators reacted passionately to key moments, especially Lionel Messi’s goals. Most of those present were Argentina supporters, who cheered loudly throughout the match.
Mohammad Shahin, an official in charge of operations for the Bangladesh Cricket Board in Chattogram, said the screening served a dual purpose.
'The screen test was completed ahead of the T20 series, and at the same time everyone enjoyed the match. Staff were very happy to see Messi’s hat-trick on the big screen,' he said.
