Indexes rise alongside increased trading volume

The country's stock market has broken out of its continuous downward spiral. Trading on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ended on Monday, the second working day of the week, with a significant bullish sentiment. Alongside price increases, the total trading volume also rose considerably.

According to data from the Dhaka Stock Exchange, at the end of the day, the benchmark index DSEX rose by 55 points to settle at 5,839 points. Additionally, the Shariah index DSES gained 11 points to reach 1,188 points, and the DS-30 index, comprising the top 30 companies, increased by 15 points to stand at 2,201 points.

On Monday, shares of 391 companies and mutual funds were traded on the DSE. Among them, the majority—299—saw price increases, 53 declined, and the prices of 39 remained unchanged. Trading volume was also robust; a total of Tk 872.08 crore worth of shares were transacted on the market, which is approximately Tk 91.45 crore higher than the previous session's Tk 778.63 crore.

Meanwhile, the bullish sentiment persisted on the Chittagong Stock Exchange as well. The CSE's overall index, CASPI, rose by 125 points to reach 15,604 points. There, shares and units of 232 companies worth Tk 16.66 crore were traded, with 145 advancing, 62 declining, and 25 remaining unchanged.

On Monday, Far East Knitting & Dyeing Industries PLC topped the turnover chart on the DSE. Over the day, shares of the company worth Tk 31.78 crore were traded. IPDC Finance secured the second spot with Tk 19.57 crore worth of shares traded, while Dominage Steel Building Systems took third place with Tk 18.19 crore. The remaining companies in the top 10 turnover list were M.L. Dyeing, Dragon Sweater, IT Consultants, Square Pharmaceuticals, Sharp Industries, Beximco Limited, and Indo-Bangla Pharmaceuticals.

In terms of price gains, Deshbandhu Polymer Limited showed the most remarkable performance of the day. The company topped the gainers' list with a 9.86% price increase, with shares worth Tk 13.99 crore traded across 2,697 transactions. Far Chemical took second place with a 9.62% rise, with shares worth Tk 12.95 crore traded. EBL NRB Mutual Fund rose to third place with an 8.33% price increase. The top gainers' list also featured Exim Bank First Mutual Fund and Trust Bank First Mutual Fund.
