China’s exports saw a notable increase of 19.4% in May compared to the same month last year, according to data released by its customs agency on Tuesday.
This surge in exports comes despite the ongoing war in Iran, demonstrating a solid resilience in shipments. This growth marked an improvement from April’s year-on-year increase of 14.1%. The export growth was bolstered by strong demand for automobiles and technology products, particularly those related to artificial intelligence, such as semiconductors.
In addition, May imports surged by 27.4%, accelerating from April's 25.3% year-on-year growth. However, trade relations with the United States continued to weaken, following a trend initiated by former U.S. President Donald Trump’s imposition of significant tariffs on China and other key trading partners after he returned to office last year. From January to May this year, exports to the U.S. decreased by 2.7% compared to the previous year, while imports saw a decline of 5.5%. (Source abc news)
