The newly appointed Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), Masud Khan, is currently in the United States due to some family needs. As a result, Commissioner Tanvir Habib Rahman has been given the responsibility of Acting Chairman to oversee the commission's day-to-day operations. He began performing the routine duties of the chairman from Tuesday.
This information was confirmed in an office order issued by BSEC on Sunday. BSEC Executive Director and Spokesperson Md. Abul Kalam confirmed the matter to Agamir Somoy.
The office order stated that BSEC Chairman Masud Khan will remain in the United States from June 9 to June 23 to attend his son's undergraduate graduation ceremony. During his absence, Commissioner Tanvir Habib Rahman will perform the chairman's routine duties in addition to his own responsibilities.
Copies of the office order have been distributed to the Financial Institutions Division, BSEC commissioners and officials, as well as the offices of the Minister of Finance and Planning and the Special Assistant (Investment and Capital Market Affairs) for taking necessary action.
Notably, on June 4, former BSEC Chairman Khondaker Rashed Maqsood and commissioners Md. Mohsin Chowdhury, Md. Ali Akbar, Farzana Lalarukh, and Md. Saifuddin submitted their resignations to the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance. On the same day, the government appointed Masud Khan as the new chairman and appointed Md. Nafiz Al Tarik (MD of Dhaka Bank Securities), Supreme Court lawyer Nahid Mahtab, and Tanvir Habib Rahman (Finance Director of Asha International) as commissioners. They all joined BSEC that same day.
