Cigarette Prices Range from Tk 62 to Tk 210 per 10 Sticks

To increase revenue collection and reduce health risks, the budget has proposed a significant increase in supplementary duties and minimum retail prices for tobacco products.

The minimum retail price of cigarettes has been set at Tk 62 per 10 sticks for the lowest tier and Tk 210 for the highest tier. In addition, supplementary duties of 40% have been imposed on nicotine pouches and 67% on heated tobacco products.

To expand the VAT net, amendments have been proposed making VAT registration mandatory for opening any type of business bank account.

A 15% VAT has also been proposed on the import of high-priced frozen fish and aromatic plant extracts.

However, the exemption of VAT on metro rail services has been extended until June 30, 2028.

Finance Minister expressed optimism that the budget is not merely a financial statement, but a strong foundation for building a welfare-oriented, accountable, and equitable Bangladesh by ensuring proper use of the hard-earned money of the people.
