MD Shawkat to stay at Sonali, new MDs appointed for Janata, Agrani and Basic banks

Md. Shawkat Ali Khan is staying as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer of the top state-owned Sonali Bank PLC. The government has withdrawn the order issued a week ago cancelling the remaining term of his contractual appointment. At the same time, the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance has nominated three officials for the posts of MD of Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, and Basic Bank.
Separate notifications in this regard were issued on Monday, by the State-Owned Commercial Bank-1 branch of the Financial Institutions Division of the Finance Ministry.
According to the notifications, Md. Mahbub Alam has been nominated for the post of Managing Director of Janata Bank PLC. He is Additional Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer of the private Southeast Bank limited. The government has agreed to appoint him on a contractual basis for three years from the date of joining.
On the other hand, Nur Mohammad, Deputy Managing Director of Jamuna Bank, has been nominated for appointment as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Agrani Bank PLC. In addition, Md. Nurul Huda, Deputy Managing Director of Janata Bank, has been nominated for the post of Managing Director of Basic Bank PLC. Both of them are to be appointed on a contractual basis for three years from the date of joining.
The notifications instructed that further steps will be taken regarding the appointments of these officials in accordance with the Bank Company Act, 1991. It also asked officials concerned to complete the post-nomination formalities for the fresh appointments. These notifications, signed by Afroz Akter Riba, Deputy Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, have been sent to the Chairmen of the Boards of Directors of the respective banks.
