It's like the imagery from Kabir Suman's song "Hal Chhere Na" (Don't Give Up): "Don't give up, friend; rather, raise your voice louder / We will meet again at the dawn of another song."
Today, Alibaba, one of the world's largest e-commerce companies, is known to everyone. The popular online shopping platform AliExpress is also part of this group. But behind Alibaba's success lies a long struggle, countless failures, and the relentless effort of a man named Jack Ma, who never gave up. He overcame failure and moved forward, step by step.
Born on October 15, 1964, in an ordinary family in Hangzhou, China, Jack Ma's family was in a very precarious financial situation. From childhood, he had to face various adversities.
His academic life wasn't easy either. He failed his primary school entrance exam twice and his middle school exam three times. Later, he applied to Harvard University ten times but was never accepted. He applied for jobs at more than 30 different companies, and every single time, he was rejected.
However, failure couldn't stop him. Driven by an interest in learning English, he would talk to foreign tourists. He later earned a bachelor's degree in English and started a career in teaching.
In 1995, Jack Ma went to the United States for a government project. It was then that he was first introduced to the internet. He noticed that there was very little information about China online. An idea for a new business was born in his mind.
In 1999, he founded Alibaba in his apartment with 17 friends. The start was small, but the dream was big.
Later, Alibaba received significant investments from Japan's SoftBank and the investment firm Goldman Sachs. After that, the company gradually grew in popularity.
Jack Ma didn't just create an online marketplace; he built a complete digital ecosystem. Alongside Alibaba, he launched Taobao, Alipay, and AliWangWang. These three services are like the "Iron Triangle" of e-commerce.
Today, Alibaba connects businesses to businesses, businesses to consumers, and consumers to consumers. There's also an interesting story behind its name.
While sitting in a cafe in the United States, the name "Alibaba" came to Jack Ma's mind. He then tested its potential success with various people. Their positive responses encouraged him to choose the name.
Today, Alibaba is not just a company; it's a symbol of perseverance, courage, and fulfilling dreams. The man who never gave up, even after failing many times, built one of the world's most successful technology companies.
Jack Ma's story reminds us that failure is not the end; sometimes, it's the beginning of great success.
