Bangladesh is going to sign a new Partnership Framework Agreement (PFA) with the World Bank (WB), with the issues of the agreement set to be finalized within the next two to three weeks.
Although no problems exist regarding core policy matters, how the topics will take final shape following discussions will be determined through the joint plan.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury confirmed the details to journalists following the WB-IMF meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand, at 12 pm local time on Friday.
Khosru held meetings with Bank of America, Google, IMF, Standard Chartered Bank, and Moody’s. Discussions at those sessions focused on the overall situation of Bangladesh, loan issues, financial sector reforms, and other related matters.
He said the year is extremely important for Bangladesh, and international organizations also recognize this reality. Considering this factor, various international development partner organizations, including the WB, IMF, and Asian Development Bank (ADB), are working together to address the country’s economic development and global crisis.
Reiterating the commitment to implement the election manifesto and programs of the government, Khosru announced that a specific development framework agreement is being prepared for the next five years.
When asked about the speeches delivered during the morning plenary session by the WB President and IMF Managing Director, he noted that, in the context of the global crisis, mutual cooperation and partnership represent the greatest strength for low-income countries.
He expressed optimism that, as a government fulfilling the expectations of the people and striving for sustainable development, support and joint efforts from all development partners will continue, as highlighted by the heads of the two organizations.
