Policy on Import of Petroelum by Private Entities
Energy Division dismisses rumors of ‘special privileges for anyone’

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division under Ministery of Energy and Power has said that the proposed policy for importing petroleum oil by the private entrepreurs does not provide any scope for offering special benefits to any particular individual, entity, or group.
Muhammad Arif Sadek, Deputy Chief Information Officer of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, cited this in a press release issued on Saturday.
The press release said the government has taken initiative to draft a policy titled "Policy for Import, Storage, Transportation, Distribution and Marketing of Refined Petroleum at the Private Level, 2026" to ensure uninterrupted and secure fuel oil supply.
The primary objectives of formulating the proposed policy are to ensure the country's energy security and maintain an uninterrupted supply system. Additionally, the policy aims to create a transparent and competitive system so that, in emergency or crisis situations, alongside the existing government system, the private sector's infrastructure and investment capabilities can be utilised in the national interest.
The policy will be finalized after receiving opinions and suggestions from all stakeholders concerned with the energy sector. Such a policy will only be considered if it is possible to ensure public interest, energy security, a competitive market system, transparency, and accountability. Therefore, this policy does not provide any opportunity to grant special benefits to any particular individual, entity, or group.
Recently, speculative and false information regarding this proposed policy has been published in some media and on social media, which is unintended. The press release urged all concerned to act responsibly in this regard.
