A 16 kg coral fish was caught in the nets of a fisherman in the Meghna River in Monpura, Bhola. It was put up for auction at the Dalchar fish landing center in the upazila on Tuesday morning and was sold for Tk 24,000.

The fisherman, Kamal Majhi, brought the fish to the Dalchar fish landing center in Kalatali Union No. 5 of the upazila.

He said that while fishing in the Meghna, this large coral fish got caught in his net along with other small-sized hilsa fish. In the auction, local fish trader Jobayer Hasan Rajib Chowdhury bought the fish at Tk 1,500 per kg.

Upazila Fisheries Officer Joyanta Kumar Apu said that catching a large-sized coral fish in the fishermen's nets amidst the hilsa crisis brings some relief to the fishermen. Their income increases. He expressed hope that alongside hilsa, more large-sized fish will be found in the coming days.
